On to the next project… September 20, 2010

Saturday was a crazy day. I finally finished Billy the Exterminators cake. Had to cut some things out and change a few en things because of time but it came out a lot better the I predicted at the beginning. So after 4 straight days and about 10 hours per day I was done and more then ready to hand it off. We borrow our neighbors Yukon, since there was no way to get it into my little Saturn, and the first trouble we came across was trying to get the back sit up. After finally getting it we had to strap in all 3 of our kids and get the cake, only my husband and I, out the back door. This cake was HUGE, a good 150 pounds. As we put it in the truck I felt we could some what breath until I realized the hard part is actually getting it to the corn maze in one piece. So I squeezed in the back with it and held on as much as I could. It made it there but then we had to wait for Billy and his crew to get there. Once they arrived they had to film him getting out and talking to the owners a few times which meant the cake was stuck in the back of the truck for another hour or more and the fondant was starting to sweat, even with the air on the whole time. FINALLY, we were able to back the truck up to the table and put the cake on the table. They filmed the whole thing, so hoping my bottom doesn’t look to big on TV lol. Billy and his family loved the cake. Everyone there was taking pictures of it and the owner of the maze made us a huge banner to go in front of the cake. So even though there were times I wanted to call up Mike and tell him I couldn’t do the cake for him, I didn’t give up hope and I am more then glad I didn’t. The whole experience was amazing and I can say that I may not do another one anytime in the near future but I would love to eventually do another cake like that.

My project for this week for a small 6″ car theme cake, for a friend. I have a black forest cake due on Thursday, hoping that one comes out okay and by Saturday I have to do 6 dozen tea cakes. If I hadn’t done that cake for Billy I would say that I have a busy week but now I have more appreciation for little cakes like that.

Hope you enjoy the pictures from the corn maze. Don’t forget to check out my site, angelsdelicacy.com and look me up on Facebook.

Almost there… September 17, 2010

So my neighbor couldn’t come back and finish helping me but that’s alright I knocked them out yesterday. Got everything baked, iced, insects mostly done and some fondant ready to cover the cakes. My house may be a wreak but I am determined to get this cake done. Hoping it will all be worth it in the end. This is one of the biggest cakes I have every done and I’m doing it for a local celebrity which is a huge deal, to me at least. I’m to the point in the cake process that I am wondering if I bite off more than I can chew. My family and friends have been very supportive through out this whole thing so that is the only reason I have kept going with it.

About the cake so far, well the bees and spiders were pretty easy to do but the wasps and roaches are what got me. I tried for about an hour just trying to figure out how i was going to do those. I finally got them though and hope that they look so realistic that no one wants to eat them, lol. At least now i can say I that I have eaten a roach, spider, bee and wasp.

It has been stressful this week with 2 other cakes that were due earlier this week as well as Billy’s birthday cake. Will be very glad when it is all over.

Next week I have 2 small cakes and 6 dozen tea cakes but I don’t think I can complain about doing those after this week.  We also have a visitor staying with us all next week and I have to try to find time to pack since we will be moving right down the road at the end of the month. Yeah that’s my life. Always going only to take short breaks in between to smell a dirty diaper or two. I have to say I will owe my husband and kids a great big thank you after all this for putting up with me for the last couple of weeks. I love them to death.

Hope you enjoy the pictures in progress. Next will be the finished project so come back. Wish me luck and happy cakes.

The insects are on the attack September 16, 2010

Filed under: Dixie Corn Maze Week — angelsdelicacy @ 1:11 am

So as of this morning we (my neighbor Laura and I) have gotten the colors for the insects done. She’s coming back this afternoon to finish it with me. Got half the dice cake done and I’m waiting for the other dice to finish cooling off in the fridge to put the fondant on it. Fixing to start on the political cake, at least baking it all and coloring that fondant as well. Maybe I will feel really brave and actually start on the cake board for that one. But then again maybe not. My kitchen is a mess and the husband is out playing a softball game tonight, so it is just me, the kids, the cakes and the insects!

Bring on the cakes… September 14, 2010

So this week is going to be crazy for me. Tuesday I have a dice cake to finish. Thursday I have a 2 tiered political cake to do and my big finale is for a local Corn Maze that is in Dixie, LA on Saturday. It is a VIP for 500 people and Billy the Exterminator with Vexcon will be there for promotion and because the corn maze is their logo this year. Well as it turns out it is also Billy’s birthday so I got volunteered to do his cake. My husband is great at marketing and sales so I have to give him props for getting me this job. I have never made a cake that size before but I have it detailed out to a T. I have finished 2 out of the 4 promotion birthday cakes for Dixie Corn Maze but I’m not sure if I will get to finish the other 2 this week or not. I’m going to try though and get those pictures up as soon as I can. You can check those out at Angel’s Delicacy. I will definitely be keeping you all in the loop about the progress of Billy’s cake. I am going to a friend’s house tomorrow to do all the insects and bugs out of fondant tomorrow and so I won’t have to worry about those not getting done. Pictures of the progress will be up daily so make sure to come back and check it out everyday. Wish me luck and happy caking.

Hello world! September 9, 2010

Filed under: Introduction of myself and my work. — angelsdelicacy @ 3:27 pm

So this is my very first blog to do. I was told this the “it” thing to do now a days so here i am joining the world. A little about myself. I am a stay at home mom of 3, McKenzie (5) Alexys (4) and Kadyn (19 months), sometimes I have to add my husband, Jeremy, in the kid mix as well. My oldest girl started Kindergarten this year, bitter-sweet, and I have put more on my plate and started homeschooling Alexys. Kadyn is just for the ride along right now.

I have always loved the creative side of cakes and did many family cakes through out my years. I started my cake business last December and it was definitely a slow start. My husband started my website, angelsdelicacy.com. And business has picked up a great deal in the last couple of months. I try not to overwhelm myself and only do about one cake a week. I don’t do cakes to make a lot of money just enough to cover some bills and have a little extra cash in my pocket.

My favorite kind of cakes are the ones that the customer says, here is the theme do what you want. LOVE THEM! I have been working on my cookies, cupcakes and gift baskets as well. I have done a couple of cookie cakes, personal I would rather have a cookie cake over a regular cake any day.

I have a couple of projects right now I am working on. I am working on the Dixie Corn Maze,  dummy cakes for their birthday parties that they offer. I have 3 different designs I am working on to put on the site. So far they have been a lot of work but I believe are going to be well worth it.

Wish me luck and more to come!
